A Sunday Love Song Poem by Akhtar Jawad

A Sunday Love Song

Rating: 5.0

Friends! I'm too busy ignoring pieces of waste papers on the floors
Six days a week in hurry just a parting kiss to its doors,
Ignoring the dusty glass of windows reflecting my neighbor's face,
Ignoring Mona Lisa's smile and avoiding its frames' amazing glace,
Bound to a network of social relationships outside my sweet house,
Forgetting my cute children and even forgetting my beautiful spouse,
Sweet call of a rose sprung in a nearby plant to play a romantic part,
For a pluck and its attachment in the silky hairs of my sweetheart,
Overlooking a couple of pets how lovingly they wave their tails,
Regretting I could not get time to cut my growing nails,
Here I am on way to my work, my duty, that earns bread for me,
Remembering all those whom I ignored, a binding thread for me,
Sweethearts! The thread that binds me with you is silky but strong,
Here is a Sunday and for all of you I have brought a love song.

Rhymed Royal and perfectly worded, true work this writing work, showing the duty of work and earning the daily bread. I cite this line from the poem: Here I am on way to my work, my duty, that earns bread for me. Too busy with earning money for the spouse and kids, so no time to pay attention at all lovely things. Shining poetry of the daily truth, so truly no time to pay attention to other ordinary things, like pets how lovingly they wave their tails.

A lovely poem that most of us could relate to. Some of the lines resonate with me. Sometimes we ignore the presence of our loved ones' when we are engrossed/ occupied with things important to us. Our work and poetry are some instances that could take away most of our time. There are times when our loved ones' just patiently wait for us to have our time with them. A perceptive poem beautifully written.

Such is the addiction of Net and social media. But the poet has here drawn a line and brought for them a love song by the week end. And all that was ignored, snored at for six days, come roaring back. A well-penned piece.

Sweetest love songs brought on Sunday. And some time it does seem like we overlook people around us for these online bonds that we form with poets and their poetry. Or we can say that we have expanded ourself to be more inclusive in our friends and family affection. A recognition of wider consciousness.
