MADRE AFRICA

Sono cresciuta sulla tua schiena
Avvolta in una coperta
Ondeggiando mentre cantavi e appendevi
i vestiti al sole splendente

Mi manca il tuo canto pieno di sentimento
E i vapori di eucalipto

Quando chiudo gli occhi, vedo ancora
La terra rossa che brucia sotto il cielo antico.
Addio?
No. Mai.
Tu scorri nelle mie vene insieme al sangue,
Il colore del fango argilloso
che dà forma a così tanti vasi

Africa, Madre mia, che mi hai preparato
Per il viaggio della vita.
Mama Africa, Madre, a cui tornerò
Quando il viaggio si sarà concluso.

Mama Afrika - Poem by Lisa Langton
.

MAMA AFRIKA

I grew up on your back
Wrapped in a blanket
Swaying as you sang and hung
the clothes in the African sun

I miss your soulful singing
And the vapours of eucalyptus

Closing my eyes, I can still see
The red earth burning under the ancient sky
Goodbye?
No, not ever
You course through my veins in my blood
The colour of the clay mud
that shaped so many vessels

Africa, my Mother who prepared me
For life's journey
Mama Africa, Mother to whom I shall return
When the journey is done
