A Wild Longing Poem By Mohammad Younus Koul In Urdu/Hindi Translation

Ek Khofnaak Chahat

There was Mohammad Iqbal, the grandfather of the nation of Pakistan, the father was Jinah. He was the son/grandson of a Hindu Kashmiri Pundit. If there are any, beneath the surface, some aspirations for another new nation, they do not seem to be blatantly obvious at this moment.

Now there is Mohammad Younus Koul. Perhaps, not for sure, a descendant of some Hindu Kashmiri Kaul pundit.

Both are/were orthodox - pukka- muslims. It is said that the newly bred converts are zealots in their new found faith, (until they find, if they have some IQ, what really their new faith leads to.)

Anyway, I make below an attempt to translate into Urdu 'A Wild Longing' that I assume is a longing for the dear Allah.

***

Main akela nahin hoon apni tanhaaee main
kyon k tera khayaal rehta hai har lehmain mere dimaag main

Main apnay dil ki gehraaeeoN main chalta rehta hoon tumain dhoontay
haalaaN ki soch nahin sakta teri soorat khayaaloN main

(Arey mere bhaaee, kaisay soch saktay ho tum
islaam main tasveeraiN, filmaiN, gaanaiN kya haraam nahin hain kya?)

Mere dil main aag bhaDkti hai tumain paanay k liyay
jal jaata hoon main hiran ki tarah jungl k aag main

Mera dil barbecue ho kar bun jaata hai fir ek kabaab ki tarah
(jisay mere bhaaee dekh k kehtay hain main kitna baDa musalmaan hooN)

Behtay aanso mere gaaloN pe sookh jaatay hain
Teri dikhaawat ki tailaash main

Dukhki seeti fir goongti hai mere sheekh kabaab banay dil main
Fir thandi aansaiN main leta hoon hamesha k liyay

Andar saans leta hoon, bahar saans phenkta hoon
har baar Allah Allah tera naam leta hoon

Fir lagta hai k jaisay tum mere ek hum-safar bun gayay ho
aur ek bhayankar chahat khoon main ucHalti hai tera peecHa karnay k liyay

Har kadam tere saath rakhta hoon
aur tera namr naam peeta rehta hoon ghoont ghoont laitay huay

A Wild Longing
Poem by Mohammad Younus Koul

I am not alone in my loneliness,
Because your thought walks with me,
I walk around through the labyrinths of my heart,
Looking for you, though with no image in my head,
Yearning for you in the blazing fires of my heart,
I burn like a frightened deer in a wild fire,
The raging flames overtake me,
And roast my heart like a barbecue kabaab,
Looking for you, tears get dry on my cheeks,
A melancholic whistle echoes in my heart's ear,
My cold sighs span over my whole time,
I inhale and exhale your name breath by breath,
Your name sounds and resounds on all my sides,
It appears to me you are walking along me,
A wild longing goes into my blood to follow you,
Step by step on your path, drinking your melodious voice sip by sip
