After Black History Month Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

After Black History Month

Still after Black History month,
Has been given to pass fast its recognition.
Unknown will be those pioneers,
In communities far and near...
Not to mention.
Although without their persistence,
Many of today's organizations...
Created on non-profit status.
And receiving government funds to claim,
Their objective is to educate, enlighten...
Done to establish a commitment to understanding,
Between cultures disadvantaged.
Are the Black folks being taken for granted.
By the ones living in suburbia.
Knowing how to create for themselves jobs.
And at the expense,
Of the disenfranchised Black people.
They choose to ignore.
While filling their pockets,
In urban neighborhoods.
Doing their version of diversity and goodwill!

Good poem pointing some of the shortcomings with the ways that we try to improve upon society and race relations. But remembering the ones who make sacrifices always inspires us.
