Oh my God the pain
of desperation
within the walls
of my depression...
the greyness of it all
a world awash in muted tones,
blandness as its epitome
blocking life's rainbows
from existence within my memory
reaching deeply with suffocating tendrils
that wrap my soul in confusion
and disgrace...
a great sadness
abounds here, locked
behind closed doors, awaiting
loves anxious arms
that come no more...

dear shirley its a beautiful poem deeply touchinng and heart felt balanced and well chosen words.. great cheers and ten
I enjoy the way you express your emotions...the phrasing you use. It's an original way to describe an old friend.
Hi Shirley! I like how you didn't get too fancy here because depression is very dull and mundane and sad-so just your form conveyed that emotion. I especially liked the last stanza~that one moved me the most. I worked in a nursing home a couple times and 'depression' was all around-a very sad place with many lonely people who don't get too many visitors-very sad~thank goodness for volunteers.
the last verse is depressions wild truth, the one thing that there is to do is to embrace one's depression like a beautiful child hold it with all gentleness, and try to understand. it has been birthed by you.
Shirley: Been there, understand, wish I could help. Don't forget to read my Time Heals. Adeline
For the first 55 years of my life I could not understand depression as it somehow overtook the lives of some people. That is until I fell into the bottomless pit. Once out of it, I was able to write a poem about it, ': It's A Long Way To Zero.' Your poem makes good use of images to take the reader inside as depression is happenihng.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
Nice write Shirley, Your poem is woven through with feeling and is carried by it's rhythm. I see why you liked my poems. Sure we're not related?
