Any Other Name Poem by Cheryl Lynn Moyer Peele

Any Other Name

Rating: 4.5

A charred piece of bread doesn't care
if it is given the name of “toast.”
Neither does a bird pause its song
to see itself properly identified
in little Darwinian field books. A flower
will open to the sun, unseen by human eyes.
A man, however, whose particular scent
and soul are not memorable, wilts,
decomposing cell by cell, the
divine fire smothered out.

Hey, Sheryl! Am so glad you gave me the honor to critique your poem. Well, am always very frank with my poem comments. No hard feelins ai'te? Ur start-off was exquisite and abreast with the title but, thenceforth your lines suggested another title. The poem is outline with ingrained ironical meanings. I admire the poetic piece. Check out some of mine.

But humans need a name, to identify with ego, and of course to make a noise, birds do not need a name, flowers quietly announce their arrival, by the beauty of their presence. Lovely poem Bob

I found this poem quite interesting. I hope humans will also learn to be simple and free giving like the birds and flowers.
