Behind The Poduim - Poem by Allen Brodell

The day has arrived
you take your place in court
behind the prosecutors podium
wearing the typical black court gown
identifying you as prosecutor
yes, it your first day as prosecutor
filled with mixed emotions
you feel the power
your status brings
the power to jail the criminals
to punish them for their crimes

You call your first case
out loud you read the charge
you prosecute the offender
you feel the fire inside of you soul

You make mistakes
the senior helps you to stay focused
you learn from your mistakes
as a new world cracks open
of a new and exciting world
you close the case on behalf of the state
you ask for a guilty verdict

Still many things you have to learn
may God always be your focus point?
in your dealings and decisions
you will have to make
involving other people
allow God to guide you?
in His wisdom
