Beset With Sorrows And Grief Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Beset With Sorrows And Grief

Rating: 3.5

Moving forward.
With reluctance to adjust,
To what must come to occur.
Approaching to cross,
All thresholds of closed doors.
Will be done regardless,
Who places signs of 'BEWARE'...
Upon their doorsteps refusing,
That next inescapable step.
Gone to erase a dysfunctional normalcy.
Beset with sorrows and grief.
Comforting more many rather ignore.
For conflict and confusion.
As the only way of life to live.
They have come to know.
Love and adore.

Although and yet...
Always it seems the familiarity with agony,
Most are afraid to leave behind.
To find happiness to live,
Sorrow and grief free of guilt to feel.
As if habitually addicted,
To trials, tribulations and burdens...
On their prepared shoulders to bear!

"Why are you dragging,
All that unnecessary baggage? "

-It belongs to me.
I've earned my struggles.
I've paid my dues.
And I refuse to let the future,
Take them away from me! -

"Medic?
There is another one needing,
Mental rejuvenation.
Denial.
Is a mind killer.
Many are finding difficult to overcome.
With this one,
Do the best you can.
But don't use up all the smelling salts."
