Blankness Poem by Nosheen Irfan

Blankness

Rating: 4.8

I am sitting, cold and numb
under a brimming sky
groping for words
that fly away from my reach
like butterflies playing among flowers
eluding the stealthy hands

Love, life, friendship
joy, pain, death
every word cheated me
so let me catch silence
and give it a voice
and fill the white pages
with blankness tonight.

This is a deeply felt poem that is perfectly balanced in its direct expression of a despair that (I believe) is about to be transformed. There is no trace of anger or blame in your poem. Your resolution in the second stanza is not to howl and to accept silence as a healing. You see your poem fills me with hope. Is that an unexpected reaction on my part? I feel this poem is written at the threshold of change.

When silence is the only thing that make sense then in become a language for survivors. Well done my friend!
