Bri's July 2023 Showcase Of Five P-H Poems Of New-To-Me P-H Poets......[ These I Especially-Enjoyed Recently ] Poem by Bri Edwards

Bri's July 2023 Showcase Of Five P-H Poems Of New-To-Me P-H Poets......[ These I Especially-Enjoyed Recently ]

Rating: 5.0

When I finally hit 'submit'...or is it 'publish', P-H sent me this note, under a large RED Dot (with a WHITE 'x' inside the dot) :

'Please enter at up 150 characters in the 'Title' field.'

...NOW I have to edit the title; that will, at least, be 'easy', I think! Notice P-H's poor grammar in THEIR note? !

MY INTRODUCTORY POEM:

YES! I now think I'm very nearly done, ready to share with you. Have fun!
But if you find these 'no fun', like eating a hotdog without relish or white bun,
please enjoy them as best you can for 'OTHER REASONS'. I'll bet you can!
And there ARE other poems to enjoy; look for them. Look at my 'also-ran'.

These 'borrowed poems' are all from new-to-me poets on this free poem site.
I hope 'veteran' poets I've met here don't get all upset and want to, ME, fight!
I don't take 'just any poem' from 'just anyone'. Oh, no, it is (usually) so TRUE,
though IF you'd bribe me with enough ice cream and cake, 'they' might let your
.....poem through.

I refer to my Showcase Security guards, both human and canine. Yes, Beware!
You may NOT like all of my choices, but, BELIEVE IT (or not) I strive to be fair!

Ok. Now LET THE SHOW(CASE) BEGIN! ! !

THE 5 POEMS, as copied from the poems' pages in late June,
for July's showcase:

1 - Hook Line & Sinker

by Leigh Parham

Hook Line & Sinker

Whether it be the angle

Or the chill in the five am

I realized I truly fallen

Looking down at you

Working on the Jeep

Smiling upwards

I know there's no going backwards

I'm all in

Patient

Living life

Maybe you will be a part

Of the long term

Maybe you were short term

To teach me to love again

Bri's Notes:
Leigh Parham is new-to-me on PH. Yes, I say this poem has typos (maybe two) , but, as with all the poems I'm planning to use, I gave it five stars *****.
Leigh's PH bio is this (and only this) : 'Just somebody that loves to express their thoughts into writing.'

2 - Confines Of Intelligence Deceptive Trap

by K. S. Lutso (in his PH bio: Kator Solomon Lutso)

Confines Of Intelligence Deceptive Trap

In shadows of intelligence, a young man stood,
His mind ablaze, his spirit pure and good.
A brilliant flame, a flicker of creativity,
But society's pressure whispered for conformity.

With dreams of literature and arts so fine,
He yearned to let his creativity truly shine.
But the world, in its wisdom, had other plans,
Forcing the young man into law's demanding hands.

Intelligence, once celebrated and revered,
Now trapped in a path that left his spirit seared.
For what is brilliance without passion's flame?
A hollow existence, a life without aim.

With each day passing, his soul grew weary,
As depression's grip tightened, swift and dreary.
The halls of academia turned cold and gray,
As his vibrant thoughts slowly faded away.

The weight of expectations crushed his dreams,
A symphony of dulled lights, or so it seems.
For intelligence alone cannot cure the heart,
When a passion lies buried, torn apart.

Oh, what anguish for a spirit so bright,
To be confined to a path that feels so trite.
But in the depths of his despair, a truth did gleam,
Intelligence can be a trap, a silent scream.

For true brilliance lies in the song of the soul,
In pursuing what sets our hearts on a roll.
The world may dictate, with its judgment and gaze,
But our own passions should guide, in a magical haze.

So let us learn from the young man's plight,
To follow our hearts, no matter how contrite.
For intelligence is but a tool, a vessel to explore,
And without the fire of passion, it leaves us wanting more.

Let us celebrate the beauty of the mind,
But not at the expense of leaving hearts behind.
May we find our true purpose, our passions ignite,
And break free from intelligence's deceptive plight.

Bri's Notes:
K. S. Lutso is another 'good find' for me on PH. I did
NOT read his LONG Poet's Notes; it may be the first
time I've NOT read a Poet's Notes on a poem I've read.
BUT I DID read his extensive PH bio, which DID seem
a but repetitive in places, but I've pointed that out to him.
[ Yes, I, Bri, have some PH reputation as a critic, for 'good'
OR 'bad'....I might add! There, I DID add it. ]
I highly suggest that readers READ...........................
K.S. Lutso's biography! I think his bio will help YOU to
understand & appreciate his poem more fully.

I think I found him in PH's list of 'New Poets' on PH. It's a
long lists of poets, but I've found some 'gems' there.

Does He?
by Mishy Bashert

Does He?

I do not deserve love
Says that voice
In my head
That tracks
Like a savant
Personal shortcomings
Selfish behaviors
Unkind moments
Childish fits
I could go on
For quite a while
But it only underscores
That I talk too much

I do deserve love
Says that voice
In my head
Barely audible
But still present
A list of attributes
Love-worthy
At least to some

I dare not list them
They are fragile
Comparatively
And to do so
Would be boastful
Another shortcoming
To add to the list

Do you think he senses
The fear inside?

Fervid clutches
Souls trade kisses
Bodies without boundaries
Moving in Trances
Godly connection
Existence blurs
Only we remain

Do you think he senses
The fear inside?

That one day
I will not deserve
His love

Does he?

Bri's Notes:
Mishy is one of the 'gems' I've found listed on PH as a New Poet.
Of course, as with any poem here on PH (except ME, of course) ,
I REALLY DON'T expect all poems I may read from Mishy or others
to be ones to which I'd 'award' five stars. [ *****; aren't they stunning? ]

And, even if I fail to mention typos in these Notes, I try to catch them
and I usually then mention the typos to the authors in my Poem
Comments on their poem pages. I too have been known, in rare
moments of distraction....(like when I'm mowing the lawn AND been
composing it on this PC, or on paper, AT THE SAME TIME I'm mow-
ing) ....to 'make typos'. I did it twice last summer!

4 - Forgotten World
Otha Gwabe

Forgotten World

Am I broken
Going insane
Has my path been chosen
Or maybe have a broken brain

'Wasn't there a time…'
It seems you don't remember
My imagination is a crime
The memories burden gets heavier

I get these visions
That might not be there
Am I on a mission
I'm a mere being, not rare

Stuck in an ancient loop
Fortunes untold
Gone through a timeless hoop
Old memories unfold

Bri's Notes:
In part, Otha's PH bio says: 'I recently started writing again last yearin 9th grade and was afraid to show anyone. But later, friends found out and they told more people, and I wasn't laughed at.'
I KNOW I gave this poem five stars, but now I'm not sure why. I have confidence that, if Otha works to improve her writing, perhaps with help from comments which I left on this poem's page, she may achieve 5-star status with no doubt in the minds of critics.
It is, now for me, scmetimes a BIG challenge to work with PH's restrictions/drawbacks, but the site IS FREE! Yay! Keep on 'keeping on', Poem-Hunter! !

Remorseful Dog
by Titus Keya Omwaka

Although my head has been hard like a log
I come to you like a remorseful dog
So humble
And my feet tremble
Even though I have gone astray
Please show me the way

I'm not ready to battle loneliness.
Please whisper a word of forgiveness.
I regret taking you for granted
My tail is in between my legs
Hold me the way clothes are done by pegs
Don't let me go

I didn't want to write in black
Because our love will crack
I never wanted to write in red
Because our love will fade
That's why I wrote in blue
Because I love you

Titus Keya Omwaka

Bri's Notes: I wrote Notes for this poem and its author, Titus, over an hour ago, I'm sure! But I got 'messed up' by PH, and....yes, by ME I suppose....and I lost this 5th (and last) poem, planned for July's showcase.: (.....This poem was #4 until I 'lost it'.
Then I had to 'scramble' to straighten things out. I AM getting old! Is 75 a good age to stop sharing others' poems here with YOU? ? ;))))
Titus is, according to his PH bio, a 'Kenyan-born scientist' AND a handball coach and player! ! Also 'He is working on publishing his poetry booksHappy Funeral and The Widower's Diary. He is working on his anthology of short stories called Damsel in Distress and Other Stories'. Hopefully his 'writing the poem' 'in blue' will help him to win his beloved'sfavor, even though I DON'T SEE IT, this poem, IN BLUE

That's the end of the five poems for July's showcase. THANKS 'contributing poets'. I DID tell them of my 'borrowing' of their pems.
NOW, though, I STILL need to type in an Introductory poem and etc.
Thanks, Readers! Comments are accepted below and probably on poem pages of the five poets (see above) .

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
WOW! This Showcase DOES have quite a few TYPOS! ! ! BUT, AFTER constructing it, and reveiwing it (again) more than once before and after it's been published by 'good old P-H', and while the time keeps ticking AND the sun is preparing to 'set', I will leave the showcase 'as is', at least for NOW. Who knows how many MORE typos I (and PH) would make. I should have turned a light on EARLIER than I did. Oh well. THANKS AGAIN, Poets, and thanks to Readers and Commenters as well, ...and to PH. bri edwards aka brian edward whitaker in 'The Real World'. :)

(cont.) Speaking of 'at peace', it is too bad we don't have a big PIECE of cake (with ice cream) to share, .....sharing a fork and a spoon. Think of THAT, but DON'T TELL PETER! ! : )

I totally DISAGREE, anais. I typed just Bri July 2023 into PH's 'Search anything' box, clicked at the right (vs left) end of the box and was shown this: (cont.)

I liked it. You have it all there - the poems and your reviews. I think you need to rethink your titles. These things are indexed, after all.. wouldn't 'Bri's July 2023 Showcase' work?

anais, As you know now, through our messaging, I do not plan to change my often-long-titles style. But I rethought them, and I still don't 'worry' about 'marketing', AND you and I are 'at peace'. (cont.)
