This poem is dedicated to the fond memory of my father who left this world almost twenty-two years ago. It feels like yesterday whenever I think of him.
Come Back With a Smile!
Come back with a smile!
You would always say –
whenever I left for school.
A smile you perpetually had
on your face each day –
for you knew how to celebrate life.
You taught me to dream;
you taught me to walk;
you taught me to smile;
you taught me to laugh.
Your caring words;
your comforting voice – I no longer hear.
Your absence I feel each and every moment.
Come back with a smile!
You would always say –
whenever I left for college.
And I always came back
with a smile each day –
waiting to hear your caring words
and comforting voice again.
You made me fall in love with numbers;
you helped me hone my linguistic skills;
you made me appreciate every kind of music.
With you it was never-ending fun.
Your positive frame of mind;
your undying passion for life;
your calm and cool demeanour -
I still see in your picture by the bedside.
Come back with a smile!
I imagine you saying
even after twenty-two years
whenever your thoughts come to my mind.
