Coney Island Ii Poem by LeeAnn Azzopardi

Coney Island Ii

Rating: 4.8

You look so lonely there eating a sandwich by the boardwalk
You told me you have been trying to
Have quality time with yr son
But he rather go alone to the Freak Shows at the Amusement Park
If it's OK, could I sit with you?
I'll try not to pry
And then we could take a walk on the beach, maybe
Since no one comes here on the weekdays
Or I'll join you and yr son at the freak shows
And then, we'll ride on the Cyclone
Well, I guess you'll be looking for him
I think I saw him at the cotton candy stand
Hoping you'll buy some
But here he comes now
I better go
Well I'll see you later
Maybe next week, I usually come here alone

This reminds me of the old British movie brief encounters, two people meeting for a connection they have lost with their loved ones. When I read this I find there is such a great sadness in the narrator, that open disposition masks an inner sadness, the feeling of being alone.
