He stares at me--just staring
As I started to fall asleep
I ask, 'Why he did that? '
And he was silent
'What compelled you to paint Guernica? ' I asked
He said it was needed
'I love yr portrait of Gertrude Stein' I said
'Thank you' he said
It was later in the day as the sunlight began to dim
And my eyes were heavy with sleep
Suddenly they opened
Then, I realised I was talking to my socks
And was too embarrassed to mention
Who knows? Talking to your socks MIGHT be more interesting than talking to Picasso.
Picasso painted Guernica at his home in Paris in response to the 26 April 1937 bombing of Guernica, a Basque Country town in northern Spain which was bombed by Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy at the request of the Spanish Nationalists. This was during the Spanish civil war.
So very heartwarming and brings such smiles! .. Definite Definite 5 Stars! ..+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ahh, So wonderously written! .. Filled with such imagination and awe! ..
Artistically funny but reflecting some very deep and truw questions that so many of us would have liked to ask, too. Very original and different poem. Liked it very much!
There is absolute genius in this poem. From the outset, it rivets the reader. Excellent topical choices of his paintings. Intrigue and mystery. And you end it all...with such great wit. Love every single word!
