The house was redolent of daffodils
I soon fell into a state of lovesickness
Strongly... in the early spring night
Your familiar genial face, put the smile
with your distant love... on mine...

I saw daffodils on sale at my local supermarket recently and so I had to click on this poem! :)
Daffodils- the smell of distant love. It's interesting to me how flowers and scents immediately link to memory and feelings- a sort of synesthesia. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Cigeng That's a lovely photo of daffodils to accompany your equally lovely poem. Flowers are so special, they make you agree with Dostoyevsky's Prince Myshkin who claims BEAUTY WILL SAVE THE WORLD. There is so much ugliness and violence but then we see a flower or read a flower poem and feel its fragile beauty redeems what is wrong in the world. And your poem adds another redemptive thing - love. Distance and separation collapse as love makes the beloved's very being present.
The beautiful flower is always the inspiration.Very true, its beauty ease the mind and bring the peaceful feelings. Thanks for your nice comment as usual.
Posted below, the full poem Daffodils by the great Poet, which I proudly introduce to the readers. And Thanks to Cigeng.. I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the milky way, They stretched in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: A poet could not but be gay, In such a jocund company: I gazed- and gazed- but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought: For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils.
Beautiful sharing! I enjoyed reading the poem by William Wordsworth. Thanks for your kind introduction of the poem here.

Hi Cigeng, The poem starts with a reference to the fragrance of daffodils. And your reference to the flowers drew me to the famous poem by my fav poet William Wordsworth: I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. I felt my heart too dancing and fluttering in the breeze. Thank you for inviting my attention to the most renowned poet. And congrats for the exquisite poem. A whoppy 100++
This kind of daffodil normally opens during the Chinese lunar new year. People regard the flower as a symbol for happiness and good luck.Thank you Unnikrishnan for your inspiring comment.
