A troubled and lonely adolescent
But hiding it perfectly well
Knowing those insecure classmates
Would give him teenage hell
Their motivations a disease he must quell
Their reasoning his secret wishing well.
Graduating with high grades at 18 years old
In spite of troubles with father at home
Knowing he must brave the world alone
Strangers tempting with chemical solutions
Drugs and alcohol a false cure
For all that has come before.
Onto his twenties he does inject
Yet succumbs to illness and hepatitis
But what does he expect?
He is surely gullible and a fool
To believe drugs make him cool
Because life is all too cruel.
Praying at night to the all-loving God
Asking to receive the holy white light
And free him from the devil that he does fight
Chains of torture keeping him crying at night
Always injecting and drinking
To stop the terrible thoughts and thinking.
Some of his friends never to see the light
Always drunk and high at night
Their end of working days in sight
Where they'll be poor and never right
Right from wrong difficult to decide
Their addictions losing their fragile pride.
The man now in his mature forties
No longer taking drugs or drinking
Rehab restoring his rational thinking
World mental health on the right track
Where addicts can recover and get their lives back
The real world with happiness that doesn't lack.
