Dementia Can Turn Love Around Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Dementia Can Turn Love Around

Taking steps, entering the twilight of life, no longer
wanting to put up with an abusive husband.

Looking for a way to escape this horrendous situation,
living with a stranger, one whom has never been met,
yet is living with you.

No love, respect, dignity, only an abusive behavior,
taking precedence over everything else.

Presupposing complexities are gripping, ripping one
apart, leaving an empty shell with nothing more to
impart to another soul in life.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Living with a spouse with dementia can be very difficult to say the least, especially when they are going through the aggressive stage.

This is a heavy one. So sad, elegiac, really.
