(Inspired by "If There Is A Right War" Poem by Yonah Jeong)
It is wrongly said
and wrongly quoted,
repeatedly
"All is fair in love and war".
But war itself is unfair,
for it is violence
uncalled for.
Nothing
but Nothing
is fair in war.
War is unjust,
unjustified and
unjustifiable.
War is despicable,
a simple anathema
to humanity.
Well articuated and nicely brought forth with deep insight. Facts do not cease to exist because they're being ignored...
I feel gratified, dear poet, that you have been able to capture the essence of the poem. Thank You.
Very well said, We all should condemn war but how about war of words instead?
Yes! Dr Nehal. It is my opinion about the futility of war that I have expressed. If anyone has a different take, I am ready for a ‘war of words' it that suits him/her😊
'Nothing but Nothing is fair in war.'---I agree with you.But when there is an aggressor who comes stomping to occupy your territory, this war for self defense is very much justified.A wonderful poem that expresses concern over futility of war.
Thank You, Bharati for the detailed notes on the poem.
You are true, about the aggressor, Bharati. One need to defend the people, the common man, against aggression. And I am fully aware that there are occasions when war becomes imperative to protect/defend their will.
The poet is absolutely right in expressing the undeniable truth! What the poet has expressed at the end goes beyond any shadow of doubt so far as humanity is concerned. A highly expressive poem. Top score!
It gives me always immense pleasure to read your in-depth and considered observations on my poems. Thank you Dilipji. Much obliged.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
I had posted "Thank You" notes to the posts of Bharati, Dilipji, Belle Wassermeister, Chinedu Dike, Richard Wlodarski and Dr Azim Nehal here. But all of them have disappeared. Could you please help me reinstate them..
