Doctor Sax Salutes You Poem by Richard Wlodarski

Doctor Sax Salutes You

Here's to you, Jack
On the fiftieth
Anniversary
Of your rotten death

You died way too young
Missed out on old days
Could've been great days
The twilight years
Duluoz Legend

Certain Doctor Sax
Haunted you so long
Such lonely shadow
In your lonesome life

Your secret lover
Not making the grade
Yet so greatly loved
Don Juan would be proud

Personal angel
Guiding you through life
Maybe sent by Gerard
As proof of afterlife

So now your visions
Are reality

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Even in death, Kerouac holds a strong influence on me. His spirit has been guiding me throughout the whole process of writing my book about him. My self-imposed deadline for the book launch was to be October 21,2019 - the 50th anniversary of his death. Had I met that deadline, this poem wouldn't have been in the book. It was written that same afternoon. I sincerely believe that he wants this poem in that book.

A perfect way to close the book. This is a truly inspired verse, Richard. I think Jack would want his tribute to end on this perfect note.
