Does Romance Have Its Politics? Poem by Obed dela Cruz

Does Romance Have Its Politics?

Two candidates protruded
Among a handful of options.
Perhaps they are even more
Who vouchsafe her their affections!

One was a classmate who spent
Four years with her almost daily,
The next was a knight who must
Swamp his own aims for his country.

The classmate shared his presence
More than what the knight could promise
In spite that our warriors
Ought to obey their monarchies.

Is romance democratic?
Who will she vote in her ballot?
Fondness has a Sovereign
In whose hands history is wrought!

Anyone can campaign, but
Ardor can be esoteric.
Lassie must make up her mind,
Yet resolves can be politic.
