Don't Waste My Time Poem by Paula Glynn

The classroom reluctantly starts at 9am
Students in succession quickly filing in
Having woken up at 7am bleary eyed
To quickly shower and eat breakfast of cornflakes
And be dropped off in the car
Or to catch the early morning bus
Where there is eager chitter-chatter.

The office officially opens at 8am
Office workers having essentially commuted
In their cars on the motorway and on the trains
Knowing if they were late even by twenty minutes
They would have to uncomfortably explain
Not wanting to put their career at risk
Wanting their paycheck to pay the bills.

Shop workers in demand by companies selling
The public spending their money on Saturday
Having worked themselves in the hectic week
Their schedule packed full of activities
Many parents entertaining their excitable children
Who are always at school five days a week
Knowledge and intelligence they seek.

Health appointments must be attended
Missed appointments disrupting the health service
Doctors and nurses not wanting their time wasted
For they perpetually work hard to train
They dedicate their lives to medicine
And they save lives on a daily basis
Their skills and expertise invaluable.

Exciting and wonderful blind dates of an evening
Important if the date actually turns up
Losing out on a golden opportunity
By wasting their blind date's time
Someone else with appeal now waiting in line
Tardiness a trait that is undesirable and unacceptable
Showing their ugly true colours.

As each person says 'Don't waste my time.'
Time precious and a constant in science
Worth respecting and following throughout life
For time management does improve the reputation
Taking care to be on time vital to society
From school to work to blind dates
A life where to the clock one must relate.
