Down To Earth Poem by Paula Glynn

Down To Earth

My feet walk on solid ground,
My heart singing with happiness,
Whether sun or rain pours down on me,
Soaking my skin: as Mother Nature does.

My mind is sane,
And my attitude secure,
For I walk this earth,
Step-by-step, my feet steady,
No ice to make me fall,
Crash and burn,
And in winter, the snow is so cold,
It leaves me isolated and destitute.

The rain cannot penetrate my umbrella,
And it doesn't soak into my shoes,
I keep my balance, not losing my footing,
My shoes carrying me place-to-place,
My heart and mind down to earth.

No one uses me: I won't let them,
I cannot be caught in any net,
Like a mythological mermaid,
Breathing through her gills,
For I may swim in the sea sometimes,
But I am not a mermaid:
I am down to earth,
My feet standing on secure ground.

I am not alone, no matter where I go,
And no matter whether plane or train,
I feel an inner light guide me,
And common sense,
That leaves me grounded in any storm,
For I am down to earth.

The sun brightens up all my days,
And I feel rational and calm in every way,
But even in the deep of winter.
I am still down to earth,
I am still walking a clear road,
But to where? I do not know.

I am real, and my friends are everyone,
Yet I am streetwise, for I travel the globe,
The planet spinning in orbit,
Carrying all of us to a destination:
The destination where all dreams come true,
But I am still a realist: there are laws,
But I look to the North Star,
And see my hopes & dreams easy to achieve,
By being practical and down to earth,
For my feet walk firmly on solid ground,
And this person is straight in her ways,
And earth bound with her beliefs.
