Jewellery and luxury I abhor and undesire,
For it promotes consumption conspicuous and so unfair
Those who show off, I consider bizzare
To garner for them an importance, of air.
But how far I am in this assessment, fair
For an empty pocket can neither ask nor desire
But can I air a view abruptly, uninviting, ire;
Who cannot back his desire, if any, with fare.
Have lots of money and say no to jewellerry,
Have lots of money and say no to luxury,
Have lots of money and say no to revelry,
Then I am great, now not, with pockets empty and eerie.
Indeed VERY fascinating. I love how aptly you expressed the struggle....abhoring the vain show, yet...what? empty pockets? ? So you resolve to have the money yet without the vanity...thereby finding triumph? Ah, but then, what about the misers, who allegedly so love the money itself that they waste it not on trifles, content to hoarde the substance itself? Nah, you are not there. I love your concluding line...the filled pockets minus the vanity, are...eerie...very interesting! Delightful contemplation, beautifully expressed.
'Jewellery and luxury I abhor and undesire, For it promotes consumption conspicuous and so unfair' Great truth you spoke consumption is the reason behind the curtains, nowadays ishould not be a problem but yes it's so unfair! Good poem, thank you for share,10
A poem of plenty of wisdom and depth. An honest write indeed.
