Endless Days Poem by David Wood

Endless Days

Rating: 5.0

The world has revolved
Another sleepy day beckons
The fourth one this week

Tired railway walls opposite
My house sit waiting for

Trains to shuffle their cargos
Or passengers from wherever
To wherever

Eating the air with noise and
Punching with metal fists

The Sun peeps over the wall

Shaded by silent railway trees
Crows and magpies take
Their seats on vacant branches

I sit outside waiting patiently

Behind me a drainpipe drips
Night raindrops from lofty gutters

Cats prowl the wall tails twitching
Mice taking a low profile as the crows
Watched with one eye cocked

Today in time like yesterday's milk
Soon to stale into tomorrows
Flat blue sky
