Before going to the operation theater
They made me sit on a chair
The nurse asked me my name, my husband's name, the name of my place and the eye on which I would have the surgery.
When she asked my husband's name, I said, it is 'Mr. X'
She said 'No, it is written Mr.Y in stead of Mr.X on our record'.
What? ? ?
Please get it corrected, then I will have my surgery
'O.K., O.K., it would be corrected, your title has been placed in his name.We are correcting it soon.
A second nurse came. She repeated the same questions.
'Have you corrected my husband's name? '
'Don't worry, it would surely be done
Let us first correct your vision'
'Yes, tell, which of your eyes to have operation? '
'My left eye'
'Lift your left arm,
Hold this piece of cotton in your left hand'
Then she put some eye drops in my eye and left
They led me to the operation table
The doctor again asked the same questions
'Which I to operate? '
'My left eye'
'Lift your left arm
No need to hold cotton'
After ensuring that
I was the right patient
And they have to operate on left eye
They proceeded to do the surgery.
Now remembering those scenes
I recall one of Bri Edwards' poem
(The name of the poem is difficult to remember)
Where he wrote, of course in humour
That he was going to have an eye surgery
He was telling the lady doctor that
He would have a surgery in his left eye
The doctor was not listening
and went on to do the operation on the opposite.
I hope you have a successful eye operation, Bharati. A great story with a guidance. Undergoing treatments must be done with utmost care and facts must be presented properly and clearly to ensure a successful operation.
Funny where the mind takes us during stressful times. Bri's humour and your poems have eased some of those times for me. Thanks to both of you! Speedy recovery, Bharati!
