Feeding An Epidemic Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Feeding An Epidemic

What had not been done,
To correct yet allow...
The seeds of it planted,
Had been weeds to see...
Them nourish to flourish.
More than flowers to expect.
Observing to witness,
An infestation to have begun.
With too much emphasis placed,
On one's color and race.
Exposing mental instabilities.
In the fear of losing,
Deceptions kept to believe.

This conscious activity,
Has left everyone grieving.
Over what could have been,
The beauty of diversity.

Now to leave that behind.
To find more out of their minds.
Awaking with little time,
Hoping to save a harvest...
From a poisoning caused by division.
And ongoing conflicts.
Even unity to have had it.
Seems impossible to stop,
That which has been watched to crop.

Feeding an epidemic,
Of sorrow and sustained pain.
To feast upon.
With no one to claim,
A gaining of maintained stupidity...
Left them pleased to be diseased,
By the outcome.

Feeding an epidemic of sorrow and sustained pain; - a powerful social commentary relevant to problematic obsessions of these diseased times.
