Everything slips away,
However hard we may try to cling to any of them.
Nothing is stationary;
Neither the people nor their shadows,
Neither the celestial bodies, nor the earthly world!
Our lives move like a one way train.
The rails turn right and left,
And at a point terminate,
But there is no train
On the opposite path that we may take!
The trees, the meadows, the hillocks and the hedges
The posts, the ploughmen, the streams and the bridges
That we move past, slow or fast,
Alas, are never to be seen again!
Our eyes can barely hold all that we see,
They soon turn into a forgettable memory.

Dear EKL, 'And, we can't take anything away! When we die.' - Thank you for sharing this profound thought. Your comment adds to the wisdom of which the poem speaks.
Our eyes can barely hold all that we see, They soon turn into a forgettable memory..........! The comparison of life to a train journey is so apt! We keep moving forward and so many scenes flash past us. We cannot catch all the scenes well enough to retain in our memory! At the end, we reach a terminus from where there is no return train! Well presented and really enjoyed!
'At the end, we reach a terminus from where there is no return train! ' - This line sums up the poem so well! I am highly inspired by your thoughtful comment and the generous appreciation, @Valsa George.
