Flower 8 - The Bold Red Jungle Flame - 'thetchi' Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Flower 8 - The Bold Red Jungle Flame - 'thetchi'

Rating: 5.0

My spectacular garden plume,
Whistling away like a happy groom,
When they smile and bloom,
My heart shoos away all gloom.

Many petals stand together unblemished,
Merry red Jungle flame cherished,
Red profusion of cool November,
Red fluorescence fondly to remember.

Bold flowers that wins the heart of Rukmini,
Blissful flowers that unite the lovers,
Green ‘Tulasi' that matches the flame of Lord Krishna,
Gorgeous garlands and offerings as ‘Archana'.

‘Thetchi' flowers remind you of the promises made,
Teaching a lesson that one should never shirk or break,
Together, the flowers stand in strength and unity,
Together, the bloms win the loving grace of Almighty.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
‘Thetchi' is a Malayalam word for the wild flower named Jungle flame. It is botanically named as Ixora Coccinea. In Hindi, it is called Rukmini.I grow them in my balcony garden. This is a picture of the flower captured in my camera. This plant is a branching shrub seen along moist forests near sea coast. It is seen plenty in Kerala too and is used as a flower for worship, specially in temples where Lord Krishna is the Deity. The word ‘Archana' means offering flowers as worship to God.

The following lines remind me of an Urdu translation of Kavivar Bihari's couplet: Green ‘Tulasi' that matches the flame of Lord Krishna मेरी भवबाधा हरो, राधा नागरि सोय / जा तन की झांई परे, स्याम हरित दुति होय..... कविवर बिहारी मेरे अफ़कारे दुनिया दूर कीजे राधिका रानी / कि जिनके सायएतन से हरे हों श्याम नूरानी..... स्व. मुंशी देवीप्रसाद 'प्रीतम'

We have Ixora of all colours here but unfortunately, there are no poets here who can write a poem on them as beautifully as you. Thanks Geeta.
