Your eyes like glittering pearls remain embedded in my heart,
Your smile so sweet and charming- a vision unforgettable!
Your thick dark tresses like a canopy over a bright shining forehead
Adorned with sandalwood paste and a red circle of ‘ kumkum' at the centre,
Your hair long circling at the ends like tendrils thick and wavy,
Your face so bright and joyous, always with a mischievous twinkle in your eyes!
Your words, sharp and witty, forever echo in my ears,
Your hilarious anecdotes and metaphors,
That sent the whole family into peals of laughter,
Remembered often and recounted by one and all,
Your story of a red bird that spoke only the truth
Had several messages,
Is safely stored in my memory!
Your zest for life was amazing.
You worked very hard for your family,
Yet, you had time to mingle and merge with your friends
Always tending and caring for all those around you.
What you cooked for us was always special
Mixed with special herbs and spices of love and tenderness!
There is not a day when I do not remember you
Or visualise your loving face,
I loved the way you called me ‘Geeta',
Calling me again and again
Till your last breath,
As if you were chanting a Mantra,
Or a song that chimed with the cool breath of a scented breeze!
I pray that you are born again,
In a pious family of musicians
With a blessed voice of silken texture
Where you can learn and sing to your hearts content,
Fulfilling all your dreams and desires
And be my Mother once again!
Your ever loving daughter

Thank you Jasbir, for your lovely comment and for reading this poem dedicated to my beloved mother.
So precise is the description of your mother- her appearance and the traits of her personality, her interaction with family members and with her friends that she stands apart as a dazzling lady. Her image has not diminished a bit even after 14 long years. Thanks also for sharing her photograph.
Dear Geeta ji, after having read the first six lines of the poem, I saw your mother in my mind, and I touched her feet for offering my sincere pranamam. An Excellent poem by all means,
Through this wonderful poem, you have recreated the fascinating persona of your loving mother. It shows what she meant to you while she was around and now when she is not with you.
Thank you so much Geeta for this special poem written with so much love and nostalgia. Mothers hold the most special place in our lives and their memories remain fresh in our minds for ever.
