Forgotten Face Poem by Silentpoet Grl

Forgotten Face

do you see the girl standing all alone
how she hides behind that smile
she awkwardly pulls down her sleeve
not wanting anyone to see the cuts or bruises
that small laugh and simple conversation
joking around to keep the talk simple
to avoid whats really on her mind.
escaping the painful memories,
she swallows more pills
of course only when no one is looking
quickly pulling away from any touch
always scared of what it might mean
the fast glances away from eye contact
so afraid of someone noticing
how there is so much hurt held inside
the walls she built up all around
keeps everyone at a safe distance
its always easier not having to explain
or having anyone close enough to even listen.
retreating she finds comfort from a blade
never thinking anyone could understand
at a party sharing a drink with acquaintances
making her exit at her comfortable time.
would anyone remember her
or is she just soon a forgotten face?
though its how she likes it,
its as if maybe its better that way.
after all, she wasn't one for awkward long goodbyes.
did anyone even hear the story?
how she swallowed too many pills one night
maybe they talk of the 'accidental' overdose
and how she seemed just fine.
a few attended her funeral that dreary day
all of them simply the same:
'we just never knew...'
slightly shocked, they all just walked away.
And too soon she was just a forgotten face.

I dunno why but I cant seem to like happy poetry. I think poetry is for the broken hearted. This one breaks the reader's heart. :)
