Friend That You Were Poem by Abhay Vignesh Liginlal

Friend That You Were

The further you are from where I dwell
The more I flap my wings of dreams
To measure the sky of loveless time
To perch in the nest of memories,
The more your ignorance
The better my spell, of magic in verse
And stronger my will to persevere,

Love was hidden in my letters to you
The friend that you were in my lonely life,
Now hope is buried within litter you pile
The friend I lose to excess love,

Why can’t I see you through blind eyes of hope
My dreams are all tinted with your gorgeousness,
The more you trample this rose of love
Which blossomed in the garden of my fertile heart
The better I love my yesterday
Which I can never hope to reclaim,

Bless those days when
Your replies came fluttering
But never will I curse that day
Which I cherish today
Before which the book of my life was blank.
