Ganesa 20 - Unity Through Ganesa Festival Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Ganesa 20 - Unity Through Ganesa Festival

Rating: 5.0

Thanks to Sri Bal Gangadhar Tilak - the great patriot,
Who pioneered the Ganesa festival in ‘Mandals';

To join together with love and unity,
Is the main motto of Ganesa Festival;

To rise above the barriers of States,
Without tirade against different cultures in India;

To overcome the prejudice against languages,
Without reproach, criticism or evaluation;

To reach out to every corner of the society,
Without the division of the rich and poor;

To merge together with humane values,
Without the bias of caste, creed and customs;

To mingle together with a friendly attitude,
Without the blocks of ignorance and hatred;

To sing and dance together,
The virtues and victorious deeds of Ganesa;

To chant the ‘Ganesa Mantras' with devotion
And live a healthy life of peace and prosperity;

"Ganapati Bappa Morya"! Is the soulful slogan
The chorus of unity in diversity of India!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Ganesa is the darling God of millions of people in India. I have completed twenty poems on Ganesa, as a Series in Poem Hunter. To comprehend the legends and philosophy of Ganesa worship thoroughly, please read the poems of Ganesa from 1 to 20. All these poems are based on my book entitled "Jai Jai Sri Ganesa" published as a hard bound book with images, mantras, musical compositions, poems and essays in detail and printed in art paper in the year 2017. With this poem, I conclude my Series on Ganesa. It was a marvellous journey for me to write on one of my favourite Gods. Thanks to all my friends for reading these poems on Sri Ganesa - the elephant head God with several names like Ganapati, Gajanana, Gauriputra, Lambodhara, Vinayaka, Vignaraja, Mahaganapati………………so on! "Mandal" means gathering together in large numbers in a festival ground, stage or Pandals followed by procession with the deity.

It's amazing how ganesh chaturthi is one of the festivals that is widely celebrated by so many various cultures. The tradition of visiting different places during the festival has established strong grounds of unity in India.
