Greek Goddess Poem by Paula Glynn

Greek Goddess

Rating: 5.0

Sitting on the beach in a yellow swimsuit
Wearing dark sunglasses
Wearing pale pink lipgloss
Smelling of sunscreen and the sea
Strutting her stuff along the beach
Knowing that heads are turning

Sitting at the cafe in autumn
Dressed in a silver sequinned skirt
Dressed in a purple couture sweater
Covered - yet comfortable and stylish -
In the rain and cooler weather
And dressed in funky black velvet heels

Sitting in the Italian restaurant
At the start of snowy December
Autumn - and autumn rain -
Merely a romantic memory
With all the ghoulish Halloween celebrations
And colourful Guy Fawkes fireworks nostalgic

Sitting around the tree at Christmastime
The Christmas tree sparkling
With electric light jewel colours
Of blue, red, green, yellow, orange, pink and purple
Glittering the Christmas tree like magic
As Christmas presents are excitedly exchanged

Sitting in the busy church at Easter
Springtime glorious like a rainbow
With chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs
Children's faces smeared with milk chocolate
Adults kindly delighting in childhood innocence
Celebrating themselves with red wine in the evening

A Greek Goddess the immortal
Living through life itself
And celebrating in this short, brutal life
Yet magical with its broken dreams
Everyone with some regrets
But life is extraordinary in every way possible.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Marvellous poem. I was reminded of Venus Anadyomene, reading the first stanza.. The Greek Goddess transplanted to twenty twenty two. Top score
