Happiness, elusive like the wind, never stationary
Comes and goes like migrating birds seeking sanctuary
And fleeting peals of faraway echoing church bells.
Happiness is overwhelming, joyful engulfs the heart,
With laughter and smiles and life wondrous delight
Making the heart see only the very best in folk.
We never know when we are truly happy until it has gone
Swept away far beyond our reach, lost but never forgot.
Once, I was royally happy and majestic with my lover
Not knowing happiness like sand slipped between my fingers
And through folly lost all to loneliness and despair.
Oh, but how I would have kept happiness safe and noble
Enthroned within my heart with soulmate ever close
Never lost to the furies of raging purple storms.
