Ignore The Laundry and The Telephone

Number two and three rules:
Ignore the laundry you should be getting to
And if the telephone rings
Let it ring as you read your book
For you have no time to talk
For the novel you're reading
Can have passion and spunk
If you're reading a romance novel
And if you're reading a crime book
There are so many twists and turns
The plotline fascinating to figure out
The story begging to be understood
Who the characters are and what it is all about
And family and friends may not understand
Why you'd rather read but you are alone
Until you finish reading to the very last page.


Forget About The Beach

The fourth rule: don't go to the beach
If you want and need to do some reading
You need your sofa and a few light snacks
Like toffee popcorn, crisps or even olives
Some kind of finger food basically
To devour along with your Kindle or library book
And it'll take a few hours but is well worth it
For every story has heart and soul
Every story has a plot and a clever goal
Doublely possible to read that novel in one sitting
So forget about wandering to the beach
Instead read the story about James and The Giant Peach
To the BFG and to Charlie and The Chocolate Factory
Along with other Roald Dahl genius children's books.


Leave Your Pet To Their Own Devices

The fifth rule to make note of:
Your cat and dog may want attention
But be cruel to be kind and ignore them
Let your other family members lavish them
And read page-after-page
Reading through chapter-after-chapter
The characters coming alive with descriptive words
The story coming to magical neon night life
An author's dream made reality
Their fictional book enchanting
Their dialogue realistic in spite of it being pretend
The reader not wanting to book to end
The characters begging to be a difficult friend
When the lonely absorb these library books
Just plucking them off the shelf
Time spent alone reading
Definitely with no one else
Not even your beloved cat or dog
Because you are dedicated to reading
Almost like a duty, almost like a job.
