Hunting The Light Of Life Poem by Annette Aitken

Hunting The Light Of Life

Rating: 3.8

Hunting The Light

Travelling down the sewers
of this ungrateful soul of mine
as the sickness becomes a squatter
taken over my body and mind.
The torment that's unleashed
upon the unsuspecting visitors
who just happen by chance
to cross paths.
Thrown into the abyss
without a care or second glance
discarded, rendered useless
left to die, a lonely death.
As vibrant colours dissipates
as their sparkles are dying out
life has lost its meaning
only inner struggles remain.
But,
I'm sure I heard it mentioned once
of a light that still remains
a tunnel with an exit light
I'll search for, not in vain
to find this elusive tunnel.
Where life begins again.

Hunting for the light of life.

'Travelling down the sewers of this ungrateful soul of mine as the sickness becomes a squatter' sets up 'Hunting The Light Of Life' in a unique and grafically meaningful way, the only way out is eventually up :)

Favorite lines: But, I'm sure I heard it mentioned once of a light that still remains a tunnel with an exit light I'll search for, not in vain to find this elusive tunnel. Where life begins again. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - hey, Annette, isn't the exit light just for emergencies? ? is this an 'EMERGENCY'? ? ? IF SO, call Bri, day or night. i have one of those old Concordes in my hangar, ready to go, kind of like Trump. ok, i got delayed finishing this comment because i started watching an online video about the SST, the Concorde. i like your Poet's Notes: always hope let us not forget that! bri :)

A great metaphor with that final exit of hope. You are a true torch bearer to show us the way out of darkness.

When I read this poem for the first time, I was a bit overwhelmed, then intrigued and that was what stayed. The search for light (and for Truth) in our life can be an exciting journey, it can be scary, often frustrating but every grain of Truth we discover and every spark may bring us joy. I am not sure but I do not think we have to wait for the tunnel and the light that is found there for illumination. If I look back on my own journey, the darkest moments were the ones where my ego silenced the wonderful spark inside and the brightest moments were when somehow I persisted in searching fro the spark within, gave it some space and air so it would light up to a small flame. I dream of it being a fire, that provides light not only for me but also for others and the occasions when people said they found some inspiration in what I did or wrote, I feel i was a bit closer to that dream. One more thought before I stop this comment: when it is dark inside, the beauty of the sky brings often a some relief. I think this is an excellent, intriguing and very thought provoking poem, Anette.

Powerfully captivating writing, Annette. Your lines grab the reader by the shirt and exclaim, Listen up, this is visceral reality! We follow you down into the depths of your soul, looking about at the specifics of your psyche's innards as you lead us like a faithful tour guide pointing out that which we might otherwise pass by in ignorance. Then you leave us there, looking about with somewhat hesitant hope that we might spot the light of which you speak and find our way out with you. Deeply engaging, Annette. Bravo. :) S
