I am a tree
I am in it for the long-haul
My roots extend far and wide
Into the fertile soil beneath.
I am a tree
I am here in everlasting life
My powerful branches spread far
Into the green of the forest itself.
I am a tree
I am here forever
My roots unable to disentangle
Themselves beneath the healthy earth.
I am a tree
My vital leaves flourish in the sunlight
And survive the moonlight
My position in life unquestioned.
I am a tree
My body does never bleed
My soil, my roots, unable to leave
Yet I feel no pain.
I am a tree
Once planted I am permanent
Once my roots drink the water
I am fully enriched with nutrients.
I am a tree
I protect some from the rain
My branches and leaves
Leave those beneath me dry in rainy weather.
I am a tree
I record time with my inner rings
The years continually passing by
While the wild banshee sings.
I am a tree
Neither woman nor man
Yet I am alive
And I do all I can.
I am a tree
I tell every magical story
From romantic carvings into my wood
A once child inevitably leaving girlhood.
I am a tree
People sitting beneath me
Lost in their tangled thoughts
Trying to find the roots, the cause.
I am a tree
Etched in everyone's memory
My roots and leaves a legacy
That make many imagine being free.
I am a tree
Your protector, your friend
I am the immortal life
I am here until earth's end.
