I Am Human Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

I Am Human

I choose to be human.
I choose to hope.
I choose to despair.
I choose to rage.
But I will not hate.

I accept my flaws.
I sense my limits.
I realize that I am blind.
I fight battles I cannot win.
But I will not give in.

I fluctuate from day to day.
I vacillate.
I hesitate.
I cannot find my way.
But I will not stay in place.

I read.
I reason.
I ponder.
I meditate.

I choose silence.
I find words.
I am passive.
I react.

I have no answers.
I give no advice.
I am not worldly.
I am not wise.
But still I will not turn
To the patterns of the past
Or the deep grooves of suspicion.

I will face each day
With my tears washed away
And my fears tucked inside
And my heart leading my mind
Down roads my soul must go.

Heart leading my mind—this I rleate to, Suzanne. This is where the Spirit speaks to us. May you continue to bloom where you’re planted, be a benevolent sun in your solar system. -Glen
