I Just Want To Be Me Poem by Paula Glynn

I Just Want To Be Me

I enjoy being this person and just want to be me,
I don't want to hide it or fake it,
And nothing can be stolen from me,
I work hard, maybe harder than the rest.

I walk this earth with a happy heart,
And with a smile on my face,
For this is a person that can never be replaced,
I stay true to myself and follow my dreams,
Like Dorothy on the yellow brick road,
For I wake everyday with the sun shining on my face,
And I love that moon that gleams in my eyes,
For I am the earth daughter, pure and sure,
And with real strength and self belief,
Because all my dreams will come true.

I will follow my heart and think with my head,
And everyday I use my brain,
And opportunities are grabbed,
With precise hands that reach for the stars,
Dreams that glitter like gold coming true,
For I feel water cleanse me like a waterfall,
On a beautiful, sunny day: a perfect day,
That I have everyday, for I just want to be me.

I don't want to see my life go down the drain,
I want to wake refreshed and happy,
Knowing I have respect and friends,
And I know I don't have to lie or fake it,
Because I am real, I am life itself,
And I don't take: but I don't give in,
I know myself and people better than that.

I am the perfect person, with a real smile,
And I could walk mile after mile,
Never stopping, for these stylish shoes carry me,
And this coat of love protects me from the cold,
In the harshest winter,
And I don't need to lie, for I hold no fear,
And year after year will go by,
But I am rich in soul, mind and body,
Feeling no fear of the darkness,
Because the light is my saviour,
Guiding me towards my goals and dreams.
