I must go down to the sea again,
to the lonely sea and the sky;
I left my shoes and socks there -
I wonder if they're dry?
Brilliant stuff! I heard this live on radio in UK in the 1960's. Silly, silly, silly........GREAT!
I believe they were last seen floating up the Thames? quite wet
For many years I have remembered the line to be 'vest and pants'. It looks like the poem is not quite dry!
There is a hint of parody in here. The poem is way beyond beautiful. It's really fantastic.
I must put down the small screen, The lonely screen, but why? All I ask is for bull s..t to slowly pass me by.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
I thought it was his vest & socks he left there?
There are several versions quoted with the passing years, vest and socks being one of the earlier ones and possible the original... I also heard him recite " pants and socks" one time
