I was light
and myself, I felt sun.
I went in the world
and wished to instill warmth,
wanted fullfillment with all my fervor.
Only then I felt old
and caused my marrow to tremble.
That way, I discovered my nakedness
which slowly made me freeze to death.
The frost made me shudder.
I changed into ice
As did the others who were around me.
I gained then assurance
how foolish I was
attempting to warm the world
in all my povetry
and with all my minutemess.
I became a victim of coldness
Translated from the German by Werner Mannheim

Ich war Licht
und fühlte mich Sonne.
Ich ging in die Welt,
gedachte zu wärmen,
wollte erfüllen mit all meiner Glut.
Da spürte ich Kälte,
sie drang ins Gebein
und ließ das Mark mir erzittern.
So wurd ich meiner Nacktheit gewahr,
die mich langsam erfrieren ließ.
Der Frost ließ mich beben,
ich wurde zu Eis,
wie rings die andren um mich herum.
Da ward mir Gewißheit,
wie närrisch ich war
in all meiner Armut,
mit all meiner Geringheit
die Welt wärmen zu wollen -
Ich wurde ein Opfer der Kälte!

Beautiful wording and thoughts, i would say light is like a warrior, if we were light we are too...because we fight for all but we cost our life...Proud for that :)
