If you came
deformed, a cripple,
I would hasten to open my door
to let you in.
If you came
despised, defamed and rejected,
I would receive you with joy in my heart
as my king.
If you came
diseased as a leper,
I would hurry to prepare your bed.
I would cover you with my body
to dissolve the sores from your flesh.
If you came
poor and hungry like a beggar,
I would give you drink and food.
If you came….
Oh, if only you came!

WENN DU KÄMST
Wenn du kämst -
verunstaltet, ein Krüppel,
ich eilte, dir meine Tür zu öffnen,
um dich einzulassen.
Wenn du kämst -
verachtet, verfemt und ausgestoßen,
ich würde dich empfangen, Glück im Herzen,
als meinen König.
Wenn du kämst -
verpestet, voll Aussatz und leprös,
ich liefe, dir Laken zu breiten.
Mit meinem Körper würd ich dich decken,
um deine Pusteln von dir abzulösen.
Wenn du kämst -
ein Bettler, verarmt und voll Hunger,
ich würde dich tränken und nähren -
Wenn du kämst,
ach, wenn du nur kämst!
