I Wish

I wish I were ten again.
I wish I could see my Keenie and Papa
in their little brown house.
I wish I could feel the love they had when
I would peek my head around the corner of the
living room.
I wish I could have my grandmother's snickerdoodles.
I wish I could be ten again.

Hey, Leah! I see you posted this some time ago, with nothing since. My experience has been similar to yours. Your poem has a clarity that I like. It has both a sad and a relentless quality that pulls the reader along and also down some. There is beauty in the thing wished for but sorrow that they are not attainable any more. You made me feel something. That's the purpose of writing poetry. I have two other poet friends with the last name Ochs, which is why I looked you up. I'm glad I did.
