Innocent - Poem by lesley herrera

Little girl, little girl
How sweet you are
Sitting in a field of bluebonnets
Purple blue flowers brightly bloomed
Her pure white dress
With islets and lace
And a matching hat atop
Her golden hair
She sits quietly
Waiting, waiting
For the butterflies to return
Her innocence brings peace
The wind blows gently
Whistling to the birds
Humming to the flowers
And calling out to the butterflies
Come out, come out
Wherever you are
Chants the beautiful child to the butterflies
Unaware of what the world holds
Meanwhile her innocence remains
Remains in her soft giggles
Her shy pink lips
Sweet and unaware
A few years more.
