Jalaa Do Mujhe Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

Jalaa Do Mujhe

Rating: 5.0

Tum me woh tej hai jo,
Khichta hai mujhe tumhari ore
Rok nahi pati main iss chahat ko...
Ye koi gunah to nahi, khawaish hai meri..

Tumse hi dil dhadkata hai mera
Aur paas aajati hun tumhare
Vivash hun main iss moh se chutne me
Har dhadkan khichti hai mujhe teri ore

Tum roshni main patanga hun
Jal jane do mujhe tumhare ujaale me
Kho dena chahti hum main apni pankhon ko
Tumhari roshni ke ujaale me
Iss raat ki bas yahi chahat hai meri.

Thank you, Dilipji. This is the translation of the wonderful poem of ‘Sister Frances'- her pen name-, a most talented poet. It is a pity that Hannah has disappeared from PoemHunter. This translation has been done by me jointly with fellow poet, Kavita Singh.

Thank you, for reading this inept translation of the lovely poem by Frances.. It is a sheer lost to ph and poetry, that she stays away from ph nowadays...

Hi My Fellow Poets, This poem is a translation of the lovely poem BURN ME by the most talented poet Sister Frances. As her poems (the original) are no longer available on ph, I post it here for all of you to read (I believe, I have her permission to do this.) : Burn Me You have that something It glows and draws me in I can't resist the pull As I pray it's not a sin You make my heart flutter Closer, closer to your heat I can't fight these urges Draw me closer with each beat I'm a moth and nature calls Bathe me in your deadly light Singe the tips of my wings For I crave that tonight *** Sister Frances

This is wonderful metaphoric translation. Every soul in this earth is burning and willing to burn in God's fire and God every time attracts every soul toward him. God is true eternal lover. Burning in lovable wisdom of his burns all vicious desires and purifies mind. Every soul is metaphorically presented here as patanga as thirsty as for getting fire of knowledge and God is fire of eternal wisdom. I have perceived this poem spiritually rather than its material appearance...10

Mahakul Sahab, I would advise Frances to offer her rejoinder on your exquisite and deeply philosophical comment. It is very kind of you to spend your precious time read this poem and bestow more time to post these thoughtful lines. Thank you. If ph allows, I would have rated this lovely comment with an immense 1000000++++++++++++

Lovely translation. Patanga and light are such great and familiar metaphor for lover's passion and desires to sacrifice their self for their love. Great to read the original and translation. Thanks for sharing.

Namaste Savita, As you have mentioned, patanga and light are familiar metaphors to us for the passion of love/lovers. It is commonly used in Urdu/Hindi sher/shayiri. I have not seen this metaphor used in English. But when it came Frances, It attracted me. And then she requested me to try a translation. I did something in my mother tongue, Malayalam. It is posted on ph. Named, : : Ee Mohathil Dahiykkan. A few of my readers say it has come out well. It is then I thought, Hindi would reach more audience. I did the attempt and Kavita Singh helped me with the fine tuning. I am very happy to hear all the appreciation from you talented and discerning poets like you, Nosheen and all. Thank you. Deeply obliged, though the credit is due to Kavita as well. I would like to invite you to read the translation of Frances' poem 3 am posted in Hindi by Kavita. That too is a joint venture. But more contribution from her. So I have requested her to post in her name. Pl read that one too. Thank you.
