Kept in a golden cage
In royal assemblage,
Too dearly did the king
Love his nightingale's singing,
And captivatingly did it sing
To him every evening,
But the song seemed far too sad,
Gloomy, poignant, to add,
And the king cried his heart out,
So well the bird sang sans doubt,
And one day he told the bird:
Enough of gloom have I heard.
As it is far too weighed down
Am I of cares of the crown,
Can't you sing me a happy song?
Song that carries joys of life along,
Well, sure if free I'm from greys,
It is my sadness that weighs,
I yearn for green woods, wide space,
And for the blue skies whilst I race,
But a dead dream ‘tis in this cage,
Happiness unfolds on happy stage,
If unless you set me free….
Oh whence those joys of freedom be.
