Mayhem Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Mayhem

Encouraging mayhem.
Chaos and disarray.
Is what many,
Have been made to believe...
Is an entitlement.
Taught from birth,
To demand and receive.
And if this to demand,
Is not immediately delivered.
Mayhem is encouraged.
Accompanied by civil unrest.
Brought to the steps,
Where their given freedoms...
Are kept.

From birth through childhood,
And taught to expect...
Being patriotic means,
Not performing a civic duty.
Or protecting a democracy,
That reflects diversity.
But an 'image'.
And the face of it.

So deluded and deceived.
Living lives on fiction.
Distanced from truth and reality!
And easily persuaded,
To hate and create mayhem.
As if to entertain temporarily,
Division, racism and chaos.
Like the see on TV.
Done later to discuss,
While shopping at the mall.
Or...
Who came improperly dressed,
To protest...
Who now has been selected,
To represent their interests.
Better than they can.
And more competently.
But...
How can that be?
If they are of a different,
Ethnicity and skin color?

'They have stolen,
What is 'OURS'.
We can not allow,
That to happen to US! '

-Who keeps saying that? -

'The voice of violence! '

-I can not believe,
People have been made...
That crazy.
And...
Still,
Can not accept reality...
For what it is!
It's...
2021! -

'And,
Your point to make?
Is what? '

-Who is proving to be...
The enemy of the people? -

'I hear what you are saying.
I do.
However...
Your point to make,
Is too obvious to await...
For my response.'

-Even a squirrel,
Would make attempts...
To hide its nuts! -

'WHAT! ? '

-And...
That depends,
If they have them! -

'WHAT! ? '
