Mike's Golden Spike Barber Shop Poem by Darwin Henry Beuning

Mike's Golden Spike Barber Shop

Rating: 5.0

Yesterday,
Went to Mike's Barber Shop,
Right off Hill Air Force Base.

Memories -
Arriving Utah in early 76
With the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing,
From Korat AB, Thailand.
Hundreds of us airmen
With Thailand wives.

If needing a haircut,
Military term - a High and Tight,
Mike's was the place to go.

Now, in this Virus World,
The New Normal,
Appointment only,
One barber, one customer at a time,
Both wearing a mask.

Courtney,
She was my barber this day,
Sharing memories as my
White hair fell away.

We both have a love of poetry.
Courtney's favorite poet,
George Watsky.

Going out the door,
I left several copies
of my poems.

Until next time

So, does the shop sell your poems or polish the front widows with them. Ah, memories! some not so good, but, thankfully, you have some good ones i guess. And if one of those wives was yours, you two are nearly at the 50 year mark! ! thanks for sharing. bri :)

A very good photo to go with the poem of reminiscence. I think that 'high and tight' is the same as the New Zealand 'short back and sides', a conservative style which is still quite common among men. 'White hair fell away'- I notice that too now whenever I have a haircut. A profoundly interesting poem to me.

If you go to a new barber shop with two barbers, and both are available, and one has a bad haircut and the other has a good haircut, which one should you let cut your hair?

In most, you take a number and wait your turn and then end up with a bad haircut.

Very nice, Hank! In 1976 I was teaching at North Davis Junior High School, right next to Hill Air Force Base. One of my students was the son of the general who was in charge of the base. He thought he could get away with anything because of who his dad was. He soon found out he couldn't.
