Mother. Poem by Nabakishore Dash

She kept all of us in womb
for nine months,
in her lovely and caring heart
for the rest of her years.
She changes her colour impeccably.
When we are sick,
she is a nurse.
When we commit any wrong,
she is a strict father,
tough and terse.
When in danger,
she is the elder brother.
In grief, she is a true friend
and a mood changer.
She is the only one who can replace all relations,
but all relations together
can not fill in her position.

She is the best home manager
without any degree in management
as she caters ably to
everybody's need.
Her life and services
are dedicated to us,
her hairs have turned silver
to make us gold indeed.

All of us have eyes,
but her eyes are unique
with extraordinary power of vision.
Any thing lost at home
(My pen, sister's ribbon,
father's watch, grandpa's crutch etc.)
is found only by her, but
what she hides can not
be detected by any one.
Agony and troubles of the family
are hidden in a corner of her heart,
we fail to search even if
we try our best.

Let us never say her next year,
next week as days, months and
years in her life's calender are
are less than ours;
visit her in this week end,
her heart would dance and eyes
would dazzle more than the
Illuminations of Diwali.
If we fail, it would be
an indelible folly.
