Mothers Unlike Others Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Mothers Unlike Others

'Happy Mothers Day'.
To those mothers unlike others.

Mothers unlike others,
Are the ones who seem and appear to be...
Nest protectors.
Unsolicited suggestion,
And opinion givers.
With judgements to pass them.
Free.
Without being asked.
Or who those judgements are made to pass.

Mothers unlike other mothers,
Are quick to criticize.
Done with the best of nagging to do.
As if to know all,
Regardless who chooses to refuse...
To hear what is heard to disapprove.

These mothers unlike others,
Will only listen...
If they decide the doing of it,
Is not their time wasted...
Chasing childish nonsense.
To then pretend their children are 'nuts',
For mentioning stupid.
Repeatedly to bring it up.

And yet...
Mothers like this,
Are remembered more with love.
And adored for being right,
All the time.

"Oh how I miss my mother."

-You do?
When we were young,
You always said...
Your mother got on your nerves.
Enough to bang your head against a wall.
Until you got rid of the ache it caused.-

"Well...
I know.
But so right she was all the time.
And this is what I miss most."

-Banging your head?
Or your mother? -

"Both.
Especially that look on her face."

-What look was that? -

"You know,
The look I give you sometimes.
That 'I told you so look'.
After you chose to do something,
I warned you not to do.
Just because somebody else does it.
Then you want to give me attitude.
But...
I am not your mother.
Or somebody you can call,
Something to know is not their name."

-You always bring old stuff up.-

"No.
You did."
