Mystery Person 02

Rating: 3.5

In his Dodger debut
In nineteen sixty-two
He struck out four in one inning.

He turned many heads
As he struck out six Reds
And helped the Dodgers in winning.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
He made his major league debut by striking out the first six batters he faced.
He entered the game with two out in the second inning against the Cincinnati Reds in Dodger Stadium. He struck out Vada Pinson to end the inning.
In the third inning he struck out Frank Robinson, then Gordy Coleman, who reached first base safely after catcher Johnny Roseboro dropped the ball on the third strike. He then struck out Wally Post and Johnny Edwards to end the inning.
In the fourth inning he struck out the first batter, Tommy Harper for an amazing six in a row in his major league debut. He struck out one more before he left the game after three and a half innings. He walked none and allowed no hits. The Dodgers won, and he was credited with the win.

I remember it well. I was listening to Vin Scully on radio station KFI in Los Angeles. Vin Scully will retire as Dodger broadcaster at the end of this season. I will miss him.
